Prepare/Enrich Couples Program
Are you engaged and soon to be married? Do you want to make sure that you and your partner embark on your marriage journey with proper supports in place? Or maybe you are already in a committed or spousal relationship and you are looking for ways to enrich your existing union. In either case, the Prepare/Enrich (P/E) program can certainly move you towards your relationship goals!
More than 4,000,000 couples have prepared for marriage or enriched their relationship through taking the P/E assessment and working with a Certified Facilitator. The assessment itself has been proven to improve relationship satisfaction; there is something extraordinary about the the positive growth that forms when a relationship becomes stronger through focused work that both partners are directly involved with.
The goals of the P/E program for couples are:
- Explore strength and growth areas
- Strengthen communication skills
- Identify and manage major stressors
- Resolve conflicts using the Ten step Model
- Develop a more balanced relationship using the Couple and Family Maps
- Understand personality differences and maximize teamwork
Prepare/Enrich is grounded in Systems theory, which integrates concepts and principals from Marriage and Family Therapy. It utilizes a Couple and Family strength-based model within a prevention-oriented approach.
There are two components to P/E:
1. Online couples assessment
- Primes the couple for relevant and revealing discussion
- Identifies strength and growth areas
2. Feedback and teaching relationship skills
- Communication and conflict resolution
- Closeness and Flexibility
- Personal Compatibility
- Stress Management
Prepare/Enrich starts with an online assessment. The assessment tailors itself to the unique stage and structure of each couple’s relationship, as well as to the larger cultural context in which they live. Following the assessment, the couple meets for six 90-minute sessions their facilitator, who provides them with a customized report with feedback on ten core areas. The report also includes a SCOPE (social, change, organized, pleasing, emotionally steady) personality profile, as well as a full assessment of relationship dynamics. Facilitator feedback also includes a Couple and Family map to assess the two dimensions of closeness and flexibility in a couple’s relationship and in their family of origin, as well as a Personal Stress Profile which assesses each individual’s current level of stress and identifies their most stressful issues as an individual and as a couple. Individual and relational satisfaction is also examined for all couples, as well as an evaluation of each individual’s commitment to the relationship and how they think their partner feels about commitment.
Each couple is unique and each partner has individual preconceived beliefs and conceptions about how they view marriage. Many times, there is a lack of cohesion on some issues that simply has not come to the forefront of conversation, and the couple could benefit from sharing their perspectives. These could include ideas around cohabitation, cultural and ethnic differences, character traits, problems from previous marriages, the concept of forgiveness, parenting issues (to include no children, planning to have children someday, becoming pregnant/first child, currently have children, step-parenting expectations, and intergenerational issues). Other discussion topics may form around differing perspectives of health issues, role transitions, intergenerational issues, sexual relationships and intimacy, financial management, and faith-based ideals.
The benefits to couples are MANY, to include:
- Identifying both strength and growth areas
- Ease of goal setting: PREPARE/ENRICH logically connects with relationship goals
- Providing concrete and objective data about the couple relationship
