Cherrelle Barton is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in San Antonio, TX. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Houston in 2008. She then went on to earn a Master of Social Work degree with a pre-professional certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Georgia in 2011.
Cherrelle has eight years’ experience working with diverse populations of all ages in medical, psychiatric and child welfare settings. She has familiarity and experience in treating those with severe mental health disturbances, depression, anxiety, chemical dependency, domestic violence issues, chronic illness, aging issues, grief and loss. Cherrelle has strong clinical skill de-escalating mental health patients in crisis through brief supportive counseling; assessing for suicidality and triaging to the appropriate levels of care.
Therapeutic preferences include strength based, client focused methodologies incorporating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness and Motivational Interviewing techniques.
As a social worker and psychology major, Cherrelle prefers a holistic approach in treating clients. Assessing the person in the environment, family system as well as in the community while factoring in possible cognitive and biological factors. Cherrelle has many years of experience connecting clients to community systems for integrated care. As a therapist, Cherrelle enjoys developing life skills and coping skills; breaking large problems and life issues down into smaller achievable tasks.
