Emilia attended the University of Texas at San Antonio where she received her Master of Arts degree in Social Work. Prior to her studies, Emilia served in the US Army where she worked to address the mental health issues of military members and their families. Throughout the years Emilia has developed expertise in working with children, families, adolescents, at-risk teens, homeless, and substance use disorder clients.
As an active member of her community, Emilia has an extensive and diverse background advocating for child development, community health, and nonprofit public relations. Her work with disadvantaged populations and individuals has allowed her to relate to clients in extreme, overpowering, and weighty real-world situations.
As a clinician, Emilia has an extensive and diverse background. Emilia strives to connect with clients that are experiencing life-altering issues and help them navigate themselves to a safer, calmer place. Her sphere is the “Mind, Body, and Soul” a powerful evidence-based approach. As a counselor, she looks at her clients through a much broader lens in assisting them with the issue(s) at hand. Emilia has worked with clients dealing with grief and loss, relational issues, and behavioral issues having to do with addiction. She has helped clients learn and practice self-compassion and mindfulness techniques with remarkable success. She is experienced in Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Strengths-based Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. Emilia also believes that a spiritual approach has been proven to reduce general anxiety symptoms, decrease stress, alcoholism, depression, and undoubtedly increase the sense of well-being.
As a social worker, Emilia is knowledgeable of community resources and is very compassionate in working with and meeting client needs.
